A superb team performance brought the Woods a thoroughly deserved 2 -0 win against a good Eastleigh outfit on Thursday evening, just 48 hours after their hard game against Leatherhead. Every player gave their utmost to achieve this win and some of the football was excellent.
The back four looked as they had played together for years and were very assured. Behind them Mitch Swain again showed why, in my opinion, he's the best keeper to don a Northwood shirt. One save in the 37th minute was par excellence, when he dived low down to the right to divert what looked a certain goal.
This kept the Woods’ lead intact, as they had gone ahead within three minutes of the start when Jon Daily picked up a pass 25 yards out and blasted it in over the keeper to the give the Woods the perfect start.
A minute after Mitch's save, he cut out the resultant corner, threw the ball wide to Anton Robinson, who showed what he can do when he raced down the wing, centred right onto Sam Barratt's right foot and in a flash Northwood were two up. Two goals to savour!
The second half was end to end stuff, but Eastleigh suffered with the Woods’ problem, no efficient strike force. The home side nearly increased their lead on a couple of occasions when first Robinson blasted his chance over and late on when Andy Murphy headed over when well placed.
Man of the Match: Tom Janssen.
